Happy Mother's Day!

There are SO many amazing women,  turned mothers, who have made this world a better place! I hope all of you had a splendid Mother's Day, and I pray that life celebrates you every day of the year.

I know people always think their monkey is the smartest, but my monkey (my mom) is so great! I don't just say that because she is my mom, I say that because I've seen her in action. She ALWAYS has a smile on her face and will help anyone in need. Her spirit is so gentle and kind. If she does not like you, you will know and probably understand why. She's honest, sincere, compassionate, intuitive... everything a woman could need in a mother. When I thought of how great she is as a mother, it also crossed my mind that she is an AWESOME daughter. I always try to be the best daughter I can be for both of my parents. I see my mom be an outstanding daughter for her mother every day. There isn't anything she wouldn't do for her mother. I guess it's kind of hard not to follow in her footsteps. :)

People ask how my mom and I are so close, and I mean really I don't know... it just happened. The only explanation I have is that God is all knowing. He knew Tracy Lynn was/is the BEST mother for me! She's perfect! If I can be just a fraction of the woman she is, I will be satisfied. The older I get, the more I notice the sacrifices my friends make for their children (which is extremely admirable friends with babies :)) and I think of ALLLL of the sacrifices my mom has made and continues to make for me. Moms have so much love for their children there isn't very much they wouldn't do for the rascals. While the notion is scary, I hope to share this same unconditional love with my little ones. :) In the meantime, we are going to keep working on these abs and biceps! Whoop!

This is my FAVORITE picture of my mom and I. We have never really looked a lot alike (although some people argue we do). I look just like my dad and his family. But in this picture we resemble... it makes me excited!! Her teeth are better  than mine, but her teeth are better than a lot of people's so whatever. Ahaha! Love you sooo much momma bear!!

Biiiigg shout out to those Memphis Grizzlies this weekend! That was a CLOSE game, but as you know, the Bluff City don't bluff! Boo Boo! #gritgrind

It's The Weekend!!

Today a coworker and I agreed that Fridays are the adult version of a child's last day of school. MAN!! Everything is brighter on a Friday. The office doesn't suck as bad on a Friday. Let's be real, Friday is the one day of the week we don't mind going to work... it's the last day. Everyone looks forward to Friday. My outlook has kiiiinnnd of changed when it comes to Friday.

Friday morning, 6:30 am, Heidi Thomas reported for duty... gym duty... gym duty with my great trainer Hercules! Today wasn't too bad, but he confirmed that he will kill me tomorrow. He's pretty good at keeping his word in that regard. THEN today ya'll, he kept talking to me. Quincy, I'm already out of breath. I can't answer your question because you took my breath the first 5 minutes of this session. HA! I finished my upper body workout and ran 4 miles around my neighborhood which happens to be the mall. Yes, I live in the backyard of a pretty legit mall. #catch22 #giftandacurse

A number of people have asked for videos of my workouts. Luckily for you guys, my trainer damn near records every freaking workout. So, I have posted a few for your review. The first is today's workout and the second is a portion of last Sunday's workout. Enjoy!

My form is horrible on those dips... don't judge.

Weekend #2 With Hercules!

I spent majority of my weekend in a gym, sweating my butt off... AND I LOVED IT! Quincy (my personal trainer) has my entire body sore as ever. I have had four strength training sessions, ran 7 miles, and jump squatted (<--I looked it up, it's a word.) 20 flights of stairs all within the last 3 days. That is more than some people complete in a week. This girl's body is tired! It's like I am a tad bit delirious. My trainer told me that I have to keep my intensity up during the week. If I don't, I will be extremely tired. Womp, womp. My motivation is Best Friend Weekend... with my best friend!! :) And my birthday! Whoop!

Munchie Maniac!

I eat a lot of food! One because I workout a lot and my metabolism is constantly going. Two, because there is a fat girl inside of me that I just cannot kill!! Mane *in my Memphis voice* SHE EATS EVERYTHING!! I call her Hilda. LOL! Fat ass. But I've out smarted Hilda. Her cookie is now a soft-bake cereal bar made by Kashi! Delicious! Dark chocolate... dark chocolate and Hilda have never been better friends. I spent the last two weeks winging myself off of processed sugars. I've had birthday parties, a BEAUTIFUL wedding, and a holiday (Easter) all within the last two months. All of which involved processed sugars and carbs. My taste buds literally became addicted. I was craving. So, I cut myself off cold turkey. I always do this. Eat what I want and then stop. I guess this is good if you are simply considering will power. However, if you are considering moderation... I suck. LOL! Moderation?? When it comes to food?? First two words in the title of this blog are country and fried. Nothing country fried is done so moderately. Tell somebody from the country to moderately fry some chicken....moderately fry chicken, that just sounds stupid! Haha!

So, as we attempt to lay Hilda to rest we keep in mind our new (yet old and reoccurring) diet/lifestyle. No cookies or ice cream for Hilda. No pies, biscuits, cornbread, fried catfish... none of that. The idea is to make my body function at it's best on a high protein, low carb, and low fat diet. This is going to be extremely challenging, but I promise to keep you guys posted. Oh, and a friend suggested I have one cheat day a week. *looks from side to side* This goes back to the whole moderation thing. Yea... about that... We will see. I don't know if I have enough will power to allow myself one cheat day and then force myself back into the strict routine, but we will see.

Today's Eats:

Breakfast
Bowl of oatmeal
2 whole eggs and 1 egg white

Lunch
Salad w/ salsa <-- I use salsa as dressing, less fat.
Chicken breast

Snack
Oikos Greek Yogurt-- My dearest told me that  I should try Oikos Greek instead of Chobani. Me being the Chobani fan that I am,  I was a little hesitant. But the Oikos is good and it has zero grams of fat. We like zero grams of fat.

Dinner
Baked Salmon
Steamed broccoli
(I haven't had dinner, but this is definitely what I am having tonight!)

Ahhh! The trainer has killed me two weekends in a row. OMG!! I promise to get before and after pictures soon... well before pictures because after hasn't happened. :)

Thanks for staying tuned to the blog guys!! Love you all!! XOXO!

GO GRIZZLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where have you been Heidi T.?

I know, I know, I know!! I have been missing in action!!! I could give you a laundry list of why I have been so distant, but that really isn't important at this point. What IS important is the fact that I am back and more focused than ever!! I have some goals that I have set out to achieve. I recently got a personal trainer. People always say, "Why did you get a personal trainer? You don't need a personal trainer!" But what people fail to realize is, working out is extremely hard. The more often you train, the harder it becomes! Seriously. It gets harder physically and mentally.

So, I have gotten a personal trainer. His name is Quincy "Hercules" Young. He is an Olympic Athlete and All American Athlete. He recently moved to Orlando from Atlanta (I think) and is trying to grow his clientele. Well, I can tell you one thing, he has definitely gained a client with me.

On Friday, April 26, 2013 I had my fit test with Quincy. It was just a fit test, and I thought I was going to die. This man had me run at an incline of 5 speed of 9 for 10 seconds and then at an incline of 15 speed of 4.1 for 5 seconds. We did this drill  for about 8 or 9 minutes. MY LUNGS WERE ON FIRE!!! SMH. Mind you, this is just the fit test.

The second day I trained with him (following Saturday) he had me do these things called "Hebrew Slaves"... you can only imagine! Those things are hard!! I really and truly felt like a Hebrew slave. Side bar- slaves may have been, physically, the strongest people to ever walk this earth. I mean I was doing Hebrew Slaves in an air conditioned gym and felt like Sparta! <--- (someone I know just busted out laughing at this reference.) After my strength training, Mr. Hercules made me run 4 miles. Yes, I said 4.

Sunday was challenging. He told me that leg day was so hard it would be best if we did it in a group. I was down for that.  I do not mind group sessions. The leg session was a beast!! So thankful I had people who died with me on Sunday. But after my workout on Sunday, I had so much freaking energy. I couldn't sit down! Usually if I workout early morning, I will get in an afternoon nap. Sunday I didn't even need a nap. It was actually pretty cool.

I meet with my personal trainer on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. These are the hardest days for me to workout. During the week I don't necessarily have a problem. During the week working out is just a part of my routine. However, when the weekend comes who wants to be on a routine?? You have barely 2 days of freedom the mention of routine makes you want to gag. So, I have agreed with Mr. Hercules that I will do early morning, weekend workouts! During the week he has me doing a lot of cardio and strength training after I have exhausted myself with the cardio. I did sign up for the 30 Cardio Challenge with Mr. Shut Up and Train. This will be a nice addition to my existing routine.

The bday (BIG 26) is in a month (May 29th if you want to get me a gift :)). This year for the bday my stomach, arms, and legs will all be exposed and TONED!! You really don't want none! #bowbowbow!

Congratulations to the GRIZZLIES!! Never doubt the home team babay!!!

See you guys soon!! Stay on the lookout for new routines!
